The Flying Tomato is getting married.
Shaun White proposed to his girlfriend Nina Dobrev last Friday in New York City, according to a story from Vogue. The Olympian announced the news on his personal Instagram Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
“She said YES,” the caption read. See below.
The comments section of the post was flooded with congratulations from people like Michael Phelps, Kendall Jenner, Wilmer Valderrama, and fellow snowboarder JJ Thomas.
White told Vogue that he had his publicist send a fake invitation for a dinner hosted by the publication at the Golden Swan in New York City. When she arrived, he there alone with a photographer.
“I went into shock. I just froze and stared at him,” Dobrev told Vogue. She kept the caption of her Instagram post simple: “RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé.”
White is adding wedding planning to an already packed to-do list. The three-time Olympic gold medalist is featured in this year’s latest film from Warren Miller Entertainment, alongside Toby Miller.

White launched his own snowboard and outerwear brand in collaboration with Backcountry last year called Whitespace. And over the summer, he announced the launch of The Snow League, a new professional sports league for snowboarders and freeskiers that he hopes will shake up the entirety of the sports. That contest is set to debut in March 2025 in Aspen.
White and Dobrev first met in 2019 at a workshop organized by the motivational speaker Tony Robbins. White teased his upcoming engagement to People Magazine in April during an interview.
“I told her, I was like, 'Look, after the Olympics, I finally got my freedom to do whatever. And let's just have fun and be together and support each other,” he said.
Dobrev is 35 years old, and was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. She was raised in Toronto, and has acted in Degrassi, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and The Vampire Diaries.
She also appeared on-screen throughout the HBO documentary mini series Shaun White: The Last Run. That documentary is a portrait of White’s snowboarding and skateboarding career, and portrays his successes, challenges, and shortcomings leading into the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
