Snowboarding isn’t cheap. We all know that, but for one week in early December, snowboarding certainly could be cheap if parents bring their kids to one of 15 ski resorts under the Alterra Mountain Company umbrella.
Children ages 12 and under will get up to seven free lift tickets from December 7 through December 13, 2024 at any of the participating resorts.
And if you’re looking to ride in Vermont or Idaho— good news. Riders ages 17 and under are eligible for the free tickets. Parents do not need to purchase a lift ticket in order for their children to be eligible for the promotion.
“Winter is here and we want to help families get on the mountain this season,” Alterra’s President and CEO Jared Smith said in a press release. “We hope Kids Ski Free Week ignites an excitement around skiing and snowboarding and helps start a lifelong passion the entire family can enjoy for years to come.”
Proof of a child’s age – such as a birth certificate – is required to redeem the pass.
The participating ski areas are:
-Steamboat, Colorado
-Winter Park, Colorado
-Palisades Tahoe, California
-Mammoth Mountain, California
-Big Bear Mountain Resort, California
-Stratton, Vermont
-Sugarbush Resort, Vermont
-Snowshoe Mountain, West Virginia
-Crystal Mountain, Washington
-Schweitzer, Idaho
-Solitude Mountain Resort, Utah
-Tremblant, Quebec
-Blue Mountain, Ontario
Deer Valley, Utah is on the list, too, if anyone cares. Probably not, though. (Deer Valley is a skier's-only mountain)
Each individual resort is offering its own promotions as well. Solitude is offering half-priced first timer lessons, and 25% off one food item.
Steamboat is offering free rentals to children and grandchildren, if the adult in their lift purchases five or more days of equipment rental. Stratton is offering 40% off lodging, and 20% discounts on beginner rental packages for both adults and children.
More specific details are located on each ski area's website.
