One of the oldest Idaho ski area’s season was in danger. If Snowhaven didn’t find a manager, it wouldn’t open for the season. That problem has been resolved. Jared Everson, a Graneville resident, has taken on the role.

Everson worked at Snowhaven for the last three years as a lift operator and instructor.

"We are excited to have him manage our hill," said Tonya Kennedy, city administrator for the City of Grangeville.

Snowhaven is one of the smallest ski areas in the state, with just 400 feet of vertical drop and 60 skiable acres. It boasts two surface lifts,. Nine runs, a terrain park, and snow tubing. The ski area opened in 1946. It’s also home to an incredibly affordable season pass: Just $250. Daily lift tickets are $25.

It is one of three Ski Idaho destinations in north central Idaho, which is also home to two nonprofit ski areas run by local ski clubs: Bald Mountain near Pierce and Cottonwood Butte near Cottonwood.

The projected opening day is still December 21, 2024. Snowhaven is looking for additional T-bar and tubing hill operators, ski and snowboard instructors, rental shop technicians, food service workers and ticket counter sales staff. An assistant manager still needs to be hired, though there have been multiple applications submitted.

Kennedy told the Idaho County Free Press that once word got out that Snowhaven was in need of a manager, inquiries poured in from as far out as Spokane. Some of those were from retirees volunteering to help out for the season to keep one of the oldest ski areas in the state in business. It was really heartwarming to get all those phone calls and interest,” she told the Free Press.

As of December 6, there were seven ski areas open for riding in Idaho: Brundage Mountain Resort, Lookout Pass, Pomerelle Mountain Resort, Schweitzer, Silver Mountain, Sun Valley, and Tamarack Resort.
