A 26-year-old member of Switzerland’s national team died in an avalanche on Monday.
Sophie Hediger was caught in a slide in Arosa at a mountain resort.
She had raced snowboard cross in the 2022 Winter Olympics in China for the Swiss national team.
"We are speechless, and our thoughts are with Sophie's family, to whom we express our deepest condolences," Walter Reusser, the Sport CEO at Swiss-Ski said in a statement.
Just a week ago, Hedinger rode in her first snowboard cross event of the season at Italy’s Cervino Ski Paradise. She finished in ninth.
“Happy about my riding and my best qualification I’ve ever had with (third place),” she wrote on her Instagram.
