After a two-hour weather delay, Chloe Kim was able to figure things out after battling some frustrations during practice to take home the 2025 FIS Halfpipe World Championship.

“Had a cute lil menty b during practice but was able to figure it out!” Kim wrote in an Instagram post." Happy with how the season went and very happy to be heading home!” The victory is her third world championship in halfpipe. Kim also clinched a spot on her third Olympics team.

Japanese riders Sara Shimizu and Mitsuki Ono rounded out the podium. Shimizu, just 16 years old, laid down a score of 90.75 that held as the top mark until Kim overtook her with her first run.

Kim landed a switch double cork 1080 and two 900s in the contest on her way to a 93.50. No one was able to top that score for the rest of the day, and Kim’s second run was a victory lap.

On the men’s side of things, Australian rider Scotty James won his fourth world championship. His second run score of a 95 was enough to hold of Ruka Hirano and Yuto Totsuka, who won silver and bronze, respectively.

“I wanted to come back and finish it on top. To have won four world titles, I’m pinching myself,” James said to the media after the contest.

James opened up his first round with a switch McTwist, a cab double 1080 and a front double 1260. He ended with a switch backside 1260. That run landed him a score of 89.5, but James cleaned up his run and landed a 95 in his second and final run.

“I was definitely not sitting there feeling OK when Ruka and Yuto were dropping in,” James said. “They have been riding incredibly well all season and I’ve had some great battles with them."

Ollie Martin, a 16 year old rider out of Colorado, took home his second medal of the world championships with a win in big air on Friday. Martin already had won a bronze medal in slopestyle the week before. He’s the second-youngest rider from the U.S. to win a medal. Arille Gold won a gold medal in the halfpipe in 2013 when she was 16.

On the women’s big air side, Kokomo Murase won first place. Japanese teammates Reira Iwabuchi and Mari Fukada finished in second and third, respectively. Anna Gasser finished in sixth place. In an interesting development, no Americans qualified for women’s big air finals.

Italy’s Michela Moioli and Canada’s Eliot Grondin each won their first world titles in snowboard cross.
