It’s pond skim season all around the U.S., but Stowe is the only resort hosting the Pond Skim Northeast World Championships.

The contest will go down on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

Participants will get the chance to take on a 100-foot pond built by the terrain parks crew and mountain operations team. There will be contests held for best costume, crowd favorite, best splash, and the big one: Northeast Pond Skimming World Champion.

Prizes from GoPro, Oakley, and Helly Hansen will also be awarded to contestants.

“Whether you’re skiing, snowboarding, or just there to watch, come dressed to impress and get ready for an unforgettable experience,” the press release says.

There will also be free live music on the Toyota Music Den outside of the Midway Base Lodge. The Dave Keller Band and Mandolin Hank will perform on Friday, April 11, 2025.

Here’s the schedule for the day of the pond skim:

Pond Skim Registration | 9 – 10 a.m.
Pond Skim Begins | 11 a.m.
The Dog Catchers | 1 – 2:30 p.m.
Pond Skim Awards | 3 p.m.
Shady Trees | 3:15 – 5 p.m.

It’s all a part of Stowe’s inaugural Spring Bash. Winter, however, is certainly not over. The resort has received 14” of snow in the last three days, putting the season snowfall total at 338”.

As of Thursday, April 10, 2025, there’s no closing date confirmed by the team at Stowe. Last season, though, the resort closed on April 20, 2024. It has shut down operations between April 15 and April 24 every year since 2015, with the exception of the pandemic-shortened season in 2020.

It's been a fantastic winter for the northeast, and Vermont is no exception.
Jay Peak, in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, had received more snow this winter than Utah’s Alta and Wyoming’s Jackson Hole at one point during the season. Smuggler’s Notch Resort, just down the road from Stowe, has gotten 357 inches of snowfall this season.
