Passholders got the chance to kick of Vermont’s snowboarding season with Killington’s opening day on Thursday, November 14, 2024.

The resort opened exclusively for Ikon Pass, Beast365, and Killington pass holders. The K-1 Express Gondola and the North Ridge Quad ran from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and trails Rime and Reason were opened up. Passholders were treated to free lunch.

The Beast of the East is operating with a 12-inch base. Early season conditions are present, and advanced terrain is the only thing open. Riders also will have to walk along the Peak Walkway to exit the skiable terrain.

The slopes will be open to the general public Friday, November 15. Uphill travel is currently closed. A terrain park is set up on Reason. Upper East Fall could open, if conditions align.

“We will continue to make snow whenever possible over the next couple of days in a few areas on the trails mentioned above and on Superstar in preparation for the Stifel Killington Cup. We can’t wait to see you on the slopes!” the snow report says. “The Killington Parks crew has been on their grind this morning setting up jibs for Day One in Reason. There will be 5 features in total to start the season and the crew will continue to build out the park as the season rolls on. “

Jibbers looking for some early season competition should sign up for the Loaded Turkey Rail Jam. Registration is $25 a person, and competitors must have a lift ticket or season pass to ride. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the second floor of the K-1 Lodge. Practice runs from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the first heat of snowboarders goes off at 11:40 a.m.

Killington also announced that in honor of opening day, it would donate $5,000 to the Share Winter Foundation. Through grantmaking, community building, and advocacy, Share Winter supports organizations that provide learn to ski and snowboard opportunities for youth who would otherwise not ski or ride.

Across the New England, Maine’s Sunday River announced that it will also open its trails to riders on November 14 with a passholders-only event. The resort is open to the general public Friday, November 15.
