Colorado’s been getting some snow lately, and Aspen Mountain and Snowmass are the latest resorts to benefit from it.
The two sister resorts will open for the season on November 23, 2024, five days ahead of schedule, the resort announced in a press release. Details regarding which lifts and trails will be open will be shared the week leading up to the Saturday opening. Ticket prices will be shared then as well.
“Thanks to the dedication of our hard-working resort teams and the help of some great early season snow, Aspen Snowmass is grateful to welcome another season and celebrate an early opening,” said Geoff Buchheister, theCEO of Aspen Skiing Company, in a press release.
There has been two inches of snowfall so far since Wednesday, and eight inches in the past week. Aspen Mountain is working with an 11-inch base right now. Aspen Mountain has 104 trails serviced by eight lifts. Snowmass has 98 trails across 3,342 acres, serviced by 20 lifts.
Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands are still scheduled to open on December 14.
Uphillers will have to find somewhere else to earn their turns from November 18 to November 23. Once the resorts open for the season, an uphill pass will be required, and skiers (because we’re all skiers when we’re going up hill) will need to stick to designated routes.
The town of Aspen will play host to the winter X Games at the end of January. Buttermilk Mountain will host some of the best skiers and snowboarders in the world from January 26 through January 28.
Once the lifts start spinning, Aspen will join at least nine other ski areas in Colorado that have already opened for the season. Breckenridge, Eldora, Keystone, and Winter Park have all opened for the season. Wolf Creek Ski Area is miraculously 95% open already, thanks to a 28-inch base. There are 10 lifts spinning and 137 open trails.
