Need a job? Willing to move to Idaho? You might just save one ski area’s season.
Snowhaven, one of the oldest ski areas in the state, is looking for a manager, and will not open this season if it is unable to do so by December 1.
"The City of Grangeville is still actively looking for a manager for Snowhaven Ski & Tubing Area for the upcoming season," the Facebook post says. Snowhaven is run by the city, and nestled in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest about a four hours drive from Boise.
Snowhaven is one of the smallest ski areas in the state, with just 400 feet of vertical drop and 60 skiable acres. It boasts two surface lifts,. Nine runs, a terrain park, and snow tubing. The ski area opened in 1946.
It’s also home to one of the most wildly affordable season passes in the country – just $250. Daily lift tickets will be $25, so long as the ski area is able to find help for the upcoming season.
The hopeful opening date is December 21, 2024. The future manager would work for Snowhaven from December 1 through March 15, 2025. Hours will vary, but the winter school break from December 21 through January 5 is projected to be the busiest time of year. Snowhaven is also hiring ski and snowboard instructors, rental shop technicians, food and beverage staff, and ticket salespeople. You can find a job application here.
As of November 21, only Ski Lookout is open for riding and skiing in Idaho. The ski area sits on the Idaho-Montana border, and it is possible to cross two time zones in the same run. A recent snowstorm dumped 14” to 35” of snow on the mountain, which allowed it to bump up its opening day. Ski Lookout has been open since November 8. The mountain is working with a 10” base of wet snow at the base, and 18” at the summit.
