The world’s first cat skiing operation is up for sale.

Selkirk Snowcat Skiing and its 12,000 acres of skiable terrain in British Columbia was listed on the Colliers Canada website.

Sellkirk was established in 1975 by Allan Drury, and built up its reputation among powder enthusiasts quickly, according to the property listing. With 12,000 acres of terrain and 125 named runs, its reach is almost double the size of Whistler Blackcomb. The biggest difference? Just 24 snowboarders or skiers can visit Sellkirk a day.

The team runs two snowcats with a spare at the ready.

The operation is located about a five-hour drive from Canada’s Glacier National Park, and roughly 3.5 hours from the U.S. border in Idaho. Banff, Calgary, and Revelstoke are all nearby, making it a desirable destination for both local travelers and international riders.

A video by Colliers Canada shows that the future buyer will be investing in something far better than any traditional real estate listing. Drone shots show off the gorgeous  Meadow Mountain range, snow-covered lodge areas, and shiny leather seats inside the cat. All of that is followed by shots of snowboarders and skiers going through slow-motion powder so high that at least one person brought their own snorkel. And of course, all of this takes place on a part of the mountain where you can count the number of people on both hands.

In an era when heliboarding gets all the shine in backcountry video parts and tourism fliers, cat riding provides an alternative to the long lift lines without having to ever get airborne. There are benefits beyond cost, too. On the stormiest days, helicopters aren't permitted to leave the ground, as Jen Murphy of Conde Nast points out. Plus riding all that untouched powder can be exhausting, so of course, stays with Selkirk include yoga, hot tub sessions, spa nights, and top-notch cooking.

“An extraordinary opportunity to own BC's premiere cat skiing lodge, Selkirk Snowcat Lodge,” the video says. “Located in BC's famous West Kootenays, a desirable location for local and international travelers.”
