The Laax Open kicks off January 15, 2025, and some of the most influential voices in snowboarding will be on the broadcast.

The Bomb Hole team has partnered with Red Bull for the second straight year to bring live coverage of the event right from its studio in Salt Lake City. Host Chris Grenier will lead the commentary. Viewers can stream the event live on Red Bull TV.

Danny Davis and Craig McMorris will join Grenier on the call. McMorris is one of the leading broadcasters in snowboarding, as he’s usually on the microphone for the X Games. Just a few weeks ago, he announced the X Games Street Style Pro contest.

“We’re going to have a blast in studio calling the pipe final, calling the slopestyle final, it’s going to be a monumental event,” Grenier said in an announcement on The Bomb Hole’s latest podcast.

Jesse Burtner and former Snowboarder editor Mary Walsh were on the broadcast with Grenier in 2024.

You’re going to want to wake up early for this one. The slopestyle finals kick off at 7:15 a.m. EST, while the halfpipe finals begin an hour later at 8:15.

Before the Laax Open gets underway next week, big air riders will compete in the next stop on the World Cup circuit in Kreischberg, Austria. Finals for both the men and the women will kick off around noon EST.

This will be the first World Cup contest in nearly a month for halfpipe riders, and the first slopestyle event of the season. Snowboarders from Japan took five of the six podium spots at the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix halfpipe final at Copper Mountain in Colorado. Ayumu Hirano scored a 97 in his final run to secure the top spot, with teammates Yuto Totsuka and Ruka Hirano following closely behind. For the women’s side, Japan’s Sara Shimizu won the women’s event and Mitsuki Ono came in third. Xuetong Cai picked up a second place finish.

The women’s side of the field was plagued by some controversy. Chloe Kim just missed the podium. She led the field coming out of the qualifier, but fell at the bottom of the halfpipe at the end of one of her runs, which led to a lower score.

Americans Maddy Schaffrick and Maddie Mastro landed on the podium at the first halfpipe contest of the year in China, and will look to bounce back in Laax.

As for slopestyle, this will be the first of four events in two months.
