A Snowboarder Has Died at a Maine Resort

An incident at Sugarloaf Mountain has led to the death of a snowboarder.

The rider died after an incident around 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Spokesperson Jessica Sechler confirmed the news to the Portland Press Herald.

“Out of respect for the privacy of the guest’s friends and family, we don’t have any further information to share at this time,” the spokesperson said. “Our deepest condolences are with their family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

The local ABC affiliate has reported that the rider has been identified as Kendall Willard, of Kingfield, Maine. That was confirmed by the Maine Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

More details will be reported as the become available.

This incident was one of two deaths in the snow sports world in the U.S. on April 5, 2025. At Palisades Tahoe in California, Ellie Curtis died on that same day. Curtis was a former ski race champion at Dartmouth College, and grew up in Vermont. She was just 26 years old.
